Arizona State Sun Devils

The Arizona State Sun Devils nickname comes from a newspaper article in the 1940s that suggested the name in honor of Arizona's bright climate.  The name quickly caught on and gained popularity with an Arizona State Sun Devils mascot design created by a Disney animation artist.

The Arizona State Sun Devils now feature 9 men and 11 women varsity sports including everything from water polo to gymnastics to football.  The Arizona State Sun Devils compete in the NCAA Pacific Ten Conference and have always performed well, racking up 136 national championships.
